But after four days of frenetic excitement since the birth, Kate Middleton and Prince William finally revealed their third child’s name to be Louis Arthur Charles Cambridge, who will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge. He already has the official title- His Royal Highness Prince Louis of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The birth took place at the Lindo Wing

Prince Louis was born at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London – a place to which the royal family are no strangers! Apart from his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte, both Prince William and Prince Harry were also born in the same wing.

The privacy offered by this wing of the hospital is the reason for its popularity among the royal family, and indeed, other high-profile figures like Amal Clooney.

The prince is a big baby in terms of Royal standards.

Weighing 8 lbs and 7 oz at birth, it is noted that the third child of Kate and William was the “heaviest at birth” in the past 100 years of family history. Princess Charlotte weighed 8 lbs 3 oz when she was born and Prince George was 8 lbs 6 oz at birth.

The traditional Gun Salute

The arrival of the royal baby was marked with the traditional Gun Salute from the British Army. As per the custom, gun salutes are fired for the birth of every prince or princess, irrespective of their place in the line of succession. The gun salutes were fired in London by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery in Hyde Park and the Honorable Artillery Company at the Tower of London to mark the birth of Prince Louis.

This royal baby is fifth in line to Britain’s Throne

His predecessors are Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte. Prince Louis will be the fifth royal in line to Britain’s Throne. This will make Prince Harry the sixth royal in the line of the order of succession. Similarly, every other member of the royal family will be one step farther from the throne.

His birth marks an important moment in British royal history

His arrival is significant because of its impact on Princess Charlotte’s place in line to the throne, as for the first time in the royal history the gender won’t affect the position of any royal child in line to the throne. According to the Succession of the Crown Act of 2013, the birth of Princess Charlotte’s new little brother has no direct impact on her position, which was different before the Act was dictated. She still is the fourth in line to the throne.
